Currently the cities, towns and villages along the lower Hudson River Valley are on the verge of rediscovering their waterfronts. The opportunity to reinvent these shorelines in the post-industrial era and transform them into vibrant “front doors” for these communities is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It is therefore critical that we get it right. Many generations will live with the mistakes and lost opportunities that could result from this unique open window of time.
GDC has been uniquely involved in this process from the perspective of a private sector developer and a Hudson River advocate. The following is a list of our achievements:
Designated waterfront developer for the Village of Haverstraw
Designated waterfront developer for the The City of Peekskill
Successfully launched the first commuter ferry service in the region between Ossining and Haverstraw
Spearheaded the Hudson River Ferry-Go-Round. An annual event which gets thousands of people on the Hudson River riding ferries to special events and attractions along the shoreline and in the communities
Sponsored and organized numerous annual planning conferences of Historic River Towns of Westchester
Initiated the Hudson River Flower Villages a friendly beautification competition among the Historic River Towns of Westchester which continues to grow each year
Supporter of River Walk a regional plan to create trails along the Hudson River
Built waterfront trails in Sleepy Hollow and Haverstraw, New York
Initiated the Hudson River Sculpture Trail in 2005
